Welcome to the 'big family' of the Sheffield Chinese School (SCS) Formerly known as Sheffield and District Chinese School (SDCS). Our school is part of the Sheffield Chinese Association, formerly known as Sheffield and District Chinese Association (SDCA). Established in 1973. The School is a non profit making organisation; its main aim is to provide opportunities for children and local Chinese community to learn Chinese language and to encourage them to take part in various cultural activities.

Chinese New Year Events

 

To mark the Year of the Dragon, The Sheffield Chinese Association and Sheffield Chinese School arranged a serial events to celebrate the forthcoming Chinese Year, Year of the Dragon.

 

New Year Parade on Saturday, 21/01/2012 start at 12:00 outside Sheffield Town Hall.

 

New Year Celebration  and cultural show on 29/01/2012.

Please note:This year we have changed our venue to Montgomery Hall, Surrey Street, Sheffield, S1 2LG.

Everyone Welcome to join our celebration.

 

We also organised a Fund raising Karaoke Night on Tuesday, 07/02/2011 at Wong Tin Restaurant. Ticket £25 each.

You may aware from the news that section of footpath and wall was collapsed at Glossop Road, near King Edward School yesterday, This resulted section of the Glossop Road was closed and hence NO bus service.

If you take bus to school, please allow extra time for your jounary.

This year Sheffield United Football Club run a poetry competition for boys and girls age between 10 and 16 as one of the  "Kick It Out" projects. The poem will need to be between 10 and 12 lines long and have the title ‘One Game One Community’ and will need to be about how football can include everyone.

GOOD NEWS !!!  We had started the A/Level class last academic year and we achieved an outstanding first ever GCE A/s Chinese results.

Hei Man CHEONG,  Sin-I CHU,  Emily Cecilia CHING,  Hei Lim Hailey PUN,  Clarisa CHAN,  Louisa CHAN,  See Shing Edward WONG,  Nai Chuen SIEW all achieved  A Grade, and King Yee CHEUNG , Jassica LAU and Antony Peter CHING obtained B.

 

CONGRATULATIONS to all students and thank you for all teachers for your hardworks involved.

GOOD NEWS!!! Once again, the Chinese School maintained the highest teaching stardand and achieved the impressive GCSE Results this summer.

Kar-Wing Louisa CHAN, Matthew CHUNG, Geoffrey Neil HALLIWELL, Jamie Cheuk Man LEE, Yui Kiu Derak LEE, Tony LI, Calvin LO, Thomas Guimaraes TALBERT, Jade YAU , Karmen CHEUNG, Yun-Hang CHO , Hang Qing HE, Matheus Guimaraes TALBERT all achieved the highest Grade A*. Shannon Jo HALLIWELL got A and Daniel Yeun Kwen CHENG obtained B.

 

Worth to mention, many of our students obtained the full marks in some of their  exam. papers and one student had obtained the FULL MARKS in all four papers.

On Saturday, 19/02/2011, our Cultural Performance Team's Girls and Boys took part in the Cultural Performance Competition in Birmingham Central Lirary, Birmingham. We have won all three Categories we entered in the Competition as well as the OVERALL Champion. The competition was organised by UK Federation of Chinese Schools.

 

The three categories we took part were:

 

Gu Zheng Duet performed 'Prairie Children' for the musical Category.

Folk Dance Team performed 'Everyone Hold Hands Together' for Dancing Category, and our Lion Dance team for the Kung Fu Category. 

 

WELL DONE to everyone involved.

GCSE RESULTS : Once again the Chinese School had maintained the high standard in our GCSE examination. King Yee Cheung, Hei Lim Hailey Pun, Clarisa Chan, Louisa Chan, Heu Yau Leung, Phoebe Lo, Anthony Tang, William Tang, Amy Tse-Gwan Tu, Eric Wan ,Teresa Tan, Jackie Tan and William Tu all achieved the highest grade A*. Dominin Ng and Wing Yue Watson got A and B respectively.

Congratulations to all students and thank you to all voluntary teachers for your hard works.

We are now closed for summer holiday. We wish you all have a nice summer break. The Chinese School will re-open on Sunday 12/09/2010. We are going to send all students an Application Form week commence 6/09. NEW!! ! We had raised a total £832.36 in The Great Fun Run for the Sheffield Half Marathon at Don Valley Stadium on Sunday, 25/04/2010.

The Chosen Charity were Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Thirty teachers and students from our school took part in the Great Fun Run in the Sheffield Half Marathon at the Don Valley Stadium on Sunday, 25/04/2010. We hoping to raise money to help the Local Charity. The Charity we chosen for this year will be The Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support. All donations are welcome. Our Lion team performed in the Community Day at Weston Park Museum on 17th February 2010.

On Wednesday17th February 2010, more than twenty performers from our Cultural Performance Team performed dragon dance, lion dance, folk dance and Gu Zheng in the Charity Night for the patients of the Spinal Injuries Unit in the Northern General Hospital. All our children also visited the patients in the Wards and gave out fortune cookies and oranges to bless them a quick recovery.

Our Chairman Mr. Robin Wong had a calligraphy stall to translated patients' name into Chinese, all the process on the evening was donated to the Spinal Injuries Unit.

Our Musical Instrument and Folk Dance Team took park in the New Year Cultural Performance Competition on Saturday, 20/02/2010.

The Competition was orginised By UKFCS in Central Library, Birmingham.

We had won the Champion of Musical Instrument category, this was the thrid time we have won the Champion in this category,but with different performers.

Two teachers from our school Mrs Sarah Chan and Mrs Xiuo Yan Xu delivered a presentation at Bannerdale Centre on Tuesday 19th January 2010. At the meeting they gave the local teachers some ideas on how the Chinese New Year is celebrated; the story of Chinese New year; 12 Chinese Zodiac Animals; The characher of 'FU' ;window flowers; Fire works; Red envelpoe; special food that is eaten; customs relating to the new Year; Dragon dance and Lion dance; Lantern Festival etc.

QUALITY AWARDS  On Friday, 5 February our Head teacher Mr. Paul Cheung together with other four members from our school, Mr. Sai Lee Secretary, Miss Choi Ping Li Treasurer, Mr. C.Y.Ho GCSE teacher and Mrs. Sarah Chan Y8 teacher attended the Achievements ceremony of National Quality Framework Awards for Supplementary Schools at Languages Sheffield. Our school is one of the first four language school in Sheffield achieved the Bronze Award. We are delighted to received the Bronze award from Nick Clegg MP, the Leader of Liberal Democrats.
